This project involves the implementation of Xclear Aquarium UV-C systems within various aquarium units at Sea Life Scheveningen.
Located on the Boulevard of Scheveningen, this attraction features 13 themed zones that take visitors on a journey from the Dutch coast to the deep ocean. Maintaining high-quality water standards is critical for the health of the diverse marine life across these exhibits. The UV-C systems are integrated into the filter systems of the smaller seawater tanks. By utilizing UV-C technology, Sea Life Scheveningen ensures that its smaller, specialized exhibits meet the rigorous water quality standards necessary for both educational display and species preservation.
Project objectives and benefits:
-
Pathogen control and animal welfare: UV-C light is highly effective at neutralizing harmful bacteria and parasites in the water column. This is particularly vital for sensitive species, such as the jellyfish that Sea Life Scheveningen breeds in-house, and the seahorses found in their themed areas.
-
Water clarity for visitor experience: By controlling floating algae, the UV-C units ensure crystal-clear water. This enhances the visibility for guests exploring the 13 themed zones or taking the Behind The Scenes Tour, where they can observe the animals’ care up close.
-
Supporting biodiversity: The system helps maintain a stable biological environment for a wide range of fish and animals.
-
Conservation standards: Ensuring a healthy environment for marine life aligns with the core mission of Conservation and Welfare promoted by Sea Life.
